Useful tips for eating on a budget

Other than the upcoming budget recipes, there are some other basic tips that you can follow to cut costs and eat for less:

  • Plan your meals ahead so that you know what you’re making when doing your food shop. Doing this also means you can pick recipes that use similar ingredients, so you have to buy less overall.
  • Try picking recipes that use items you already have. This will mean you are making the most of what you have at home and help save you money.
  • Save your leftovers for another day. This is one of the best ways to make the most of your ingredients as well as being a super easy option if you’re in a rush.
  • Store your food correctly. Make sure that you’re putting food where it needs to be so that it lasts as long as possible.

We understand that this isn’t always enough and when it comes to making the most of your money when it comes to shopping in general, here are some other top tips:

  • Keep track of your food spending and create a weekly budget to make sure you’re not accidentally overspending.
  • Look out for offers online before purchasing in-store as you can usually find all sorts of deals that mean you can make the most of your money.
  • Before heading out, write a shopping list so you know exactly what you need and don’t buy anything that you don’t need or are unlikely to use.
  • Swap branded items for a supermarket’s own version to bring down the cost per portion
  • Find vouchers or use a loyalty card to earn points that you might be able to use towards getting money off your shop.
  • Don’t do the food shop when you’re hungry as you’re more likely to buy things in the moment that you don’t need.
